The Saint Bernard Club of San Diego has been in existence since March of 1968.  At that time a group of Saint Bernard fanciers got together and held their first meeting in Dr. J. E. Overmires’ office.  At that meeting; dues were paid and a tentative constitution was adopted which set forth the objectives of the Club:
1. To promote the ownership, breeding, showing, training and betterment of purebred Saint     Bernards.
2. To conduct Saint Bernard Specialty Shows, matches, and obedience trials.
3. To promote good sportmanship and friendship among the Saint Bernard owners.

In May of 1968; a potluck dinner was held and the profits were used to finance the Club’s first match.  The Club’s first match was held on June 16, 1968; with Mr. O. M. Capodice judging 47 Saint Bernards.

After holding six practice matches; the Club applied for and received approval to hold sanctioned matches in October of 1970.  After four years of required “A” and “B” matches; the AKC gave approval for the Club to hold its first Specialty Show in June of 1975.  In 1976; its second show was held in February the Saturday before the Silver Bay Kennel Club Show, where it continued for many years.

Although an important part of the Club’s effort goes into putting on matches and shows; they are by no means the Club’s only incentives.  Meetings were originally held on the first Monday of every month at the Linda Vista Recreation Center in San Diego; where speakers and programs of general interest were presented.

Currently our meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month.  The Club Membership enjoys great potluck dinners, engaging conversations, and when possible dog related programs; at these monthly meetings.  Guests are welcome to attend our meetings!  Please contact our Club Secretary, Christie Ramsey secretary@saintbernardclubofsandiego.org  for details of where and when our next meeting will be held; or for other inquiries.
